In Fine Art students build a portfolio based around a theme or stimulus and produce work which embraces the idea or concept of their art work. Painting and drawing form the basis for the initial sessions in September. These are closely linked to the use of art vocabulary, as this helps students to learn how to express their emerging judgements as artists. Exploring the work of other artists underpins the course in both years 12 and 13. As Fine Art is predominately about students exploring aesthetics, we focus equally on skill and ideas throughout the course. Students are not limited by media or process and enjoy exploring lots of different ways of expressing themselves as the course progresses. They may choose to work with all, or some of the following process and media: sculpture, painting, photography, film and moving image, drawing, public and environmental art and installation.
Life drawing classes are offered to all students and form an integral part of the course. Following this course, many students go on to study art centred courses, at both further and higher education colleges, both locally and nationally.
